TOPEKA UNITED: A MOVEMENT

Who are we?
We are a group of individuals who:
  • came together in 2019 after the 65th Anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision that ended segregation in schools.
  • want to continue the work toward full inclusion in our neighborhoods, ourselves, and our communities overall.
  • plan to remain engaged in this community, spreading knowledge and positivity at local events especially those that promote cultural and spiritual diversity and inclusion in our community

Topeka United: Mission and Vision

Mission: The diversity in our communities is met by
all with inclusion, welcome, equity, and opportunity.

Vision: Diversity is celebrated, all are welcomed, and community prosperity is inclusive at all levels. Separate initiatives of individuals and groups are recognized and celebrated, not overlooked or set aside.
Topeka United: Guiding Principles

Inclusive - totally inclusive in looking back, in
looking forward, in engagement today
Constructive - always; we build on our
foundation and as we build, we grow.
Attitude of gratitude - appreciate where intentions
were good, even if things didn’t turn out well
Truth - facts and feelings are real
and worthy of consideration
Respect - offered and sustained, before
and after interactions, always

Current initiatives:
•
continuously working to break down barriers and unite the community ONE RELATIONSHIP AT A TIME
•
inviting all to pledge to commit to and take steps toward full inclusion in our community

When you see us in the community, say something!
Shake our hands! Ask questions!
Create open, honest (even uncomfortable) dialogue.
Change the conversation. Change the future.
